Abstract

This research report presents shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of the Greater China notebook PC industry. The report includes shipment volume and value, ASP, manufacturer volume ranking, shipment by assembly level, shipment by price point, and product mix analysis. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with notebook PC makers. The report finds that the Greater China notebook PC industry's shipment volume in the third quarter of 2014 increased 5.4% sequentially and 0.6% year-on-year, bolstered largely in part by the back-to-school demand. With smartphones and tablets continuing to divert consumer spending, shipment volume of the Greater China notebook PC industry has been lukewarm throughout 2014. Owing to the increasing concentrated brand orders, the combined share of Quanta and Compal - two leading notebook PC contract manufacturers - reached over 65% in the third quarter of 2014. It is anticipated that shipment volume of the industry will decline slower than expected in the fourth quarter of 2014 as some PC brands have placed more orders with contract makers in attempt to take advantage of the cut-back decision of branded vendors like Sony, Samsung, and Toshiba for their notebook PC business.
